Sidescrolling action game

SIGMA FF is a free action game from the SIGMA FF team. Despite the title, it’s not a battle royale game. Instead, it is a sidescrolling fighting experience reminiscent of old arcade games. This indie game lets you choose one of two characters and travel across various levels, fighting goons along the way before meeting the final boss.

The game is rendered in full 3D, with interactive elements in the background that make it immersive. However, its faults make it feel like a rushed release, wasting its potential to be a game like those from the Double Dragon Trilogy.

Conquer the back streets with your fist

SIGMA FF has a pretty straightforward premise: you are sent into the slums of a city to fight enemies. It has a directional joystick plus four action buttons for punch, kick, block, and jump. You can move forward, back, up, and down as you fight against hordes of enemies in Muay Thai outfits, all looking the same. There are also weapons and items you can pick up.

In essence, this is a beat-em-up game similar to arcade games of the past. As you move from left to right, you are met with a gang of enemies from all directions. After beating them, you move further, where more enemies await. Its fighting is quite good for an indie game, with repeated attacks used to chain combos, making it worth it to time and position attacks.

Still, there are a couple of concerns with the game. First is the controls, which are perfectly split down the middle. You have good action buttons that can do combos, but the directional pad responds very poorly, putting your character in trouble. Additionally, while it pins the beat-em-up aspect, the game only offers one level that repeats indefinitely.

A poor but promising game

Overall, SIGMA FF is difficult to appreciate as it is. It puts you in a classic alleyway fight but without backstories or purpose. Also, the enemies are all the same. Still, it already has the premise in place. It’s a sidescrolling action experience with good fight potential. You can punch and kick enemies, or chain attacks together for combos. If it expands its content, it’d be more playable.
